Mel, Mel Mel….what would we do with out you? Us gossip mongers need you and sure enough you always manage to deliver. Let me first tell Mel and his people that I do have a dog in this fight and that’s why I am happy what has happened to him. I guess anyone who disagrees with the gospel according to Mel can go get raped by AN ANGRY PACK OF…well I digress.

So this week it has been widely reported that Mel has offended Blacks, Mexicans, Jews, and women and being a spiritual man has cheated on his wife and had a child during that period. Mel, your church can be bought off and may be able to forgive you, but people with brains won’t

So are there any groups out there that Mel hasn’t offended yet? Oh yes the whites, Catholics and Nazis. Mel whatever you are trying to do to your career it hasn’t helped it. Your talent agency has abandoned you. No one except the above mentioned groups want to see your films. In fact your last film cost $80 million to produce and only brought in $43 Million and that’s with excellent reviews of the film. It’s time to seek help or at the very least start making films for your audience like a remake of “Triumph of the Will.” But my dog will urinate on your leg even after you seek help because if at 54 years old you have these views then not much is going to change you.

The Truth Behind Why Lebron James Left Cleveland

If you want to know the truth behind why Lebron James left the the Cleveland Cavaliers, all you would have to do is look at the open letter written by the owner of the Cavaliers on their website. What type of first class moron Majority Owner Dan Gilbert must be writing such a scathing letter that pretty much lets everyone who ever wants to play basketball in Cleveland that they are not welcome because they are not allowed to leave on their terms after fulfilling a contract.

What Lebron James did, although not popular with those in Cleveland and those who hate what sports has turned into, is legally within his rights. He renegotiated a new contact with a new team. He chose to go to a franchise that was building a championship rather than stick with his hometown. Perhaps doing a 1 hour ESPN special to announce that you are doing as such may have been classless but based on that open letter, it might have not been the most classless thing done last night.

Now ESPN found something duller than the draft lottery and trying to make Lebron’s decision a TV special was painful to say the least. I pray to the Lord above that we don’t have to see something like this ever again but based on the amount of coverage (including from me) we can look forward to other NBA announcements like this for years to come.

Finally I am not a Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavalier fan, so the decision does not really affect me but based on what has happened, I think we as fans should realize that Sports is Big Business and athletes are not our friends or people we can relate to anymore. They are entertainers, always looking for a bigger stage for themselves. The athlete who is loyal to one city is long gone but every now and then there will be an exception.

The day an athlete can stay in one city without being trades, fired, or whatever is the day that sports free agency will die

Texas Rangers Fan Falls from Second Deck Video…..

And the video is unavailable but who would want to watch that anyway. The man tried to reach over and fell 30 feet luckily he is still alive. Just watching the players reaction to this was quite sickening. I am quite happy there was no video footage of this because sickos everywhere would look for the video on line and watch it over and over.

Pants on the Ground is one of the hottest songs in the USA. We knew this was going to happen the first time we heard the catchy tune on American Idol. We suspected it reached its peak after Brett Farvre started singing the tune to get his team ready for a playoff game. But Larry Platt’s 15 Minutes continues. It debuted at number 46 on Billboards Top 100. Well there really isn’t much of a story here but hey good for Larry!!! However I preferred the acapella version.

Tiger Woods: I’m Sorry That I Got Caught

I found a few minutes this morning to get away and listen to the press conference. This was the biggest news story since man supposedly landed on the moon. And yes Tiger is sorry. He apologized to his Wife, his kids, his corporate sponsors, his fans, his newspaperboy and to TMZ for making the press conference so early in the morning. Once again as I have said in my past posts “WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A FLYING FIG?”

Well I’ll tell you why we should care because we don’t have to hear about Haiti anymore and ABC “NEWS” can devote 1 hour of prime time to a 10 minute press conference. Who cares about hundreds of thousands of dead Haitian now we can concentrate on what really matter: Celebrity Shame. So now we can gather ’round the water cooler and discuss his public shame and point at the giant crimson A on his shirt.

So now we heard a statement written by everybody but Tiger and we have seen him mope his head. And we noticed that his wife is nowhere near him. So what does all this mean? WE SHOULDNT WE GIVE A FLYING FIG.

Georgian Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili Video

I was not a big fan of the Faces of Death videos when I was younger. I find it disgusting watching someone’s death. It is not for us to watch. I’m sorry if I am offending anyone out there but a car crash doesn’t interest me either.

I was horrified to hear about the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili this morning and I figured that the video would appear on Youtube in a matter of minutes. Sure enough the video made it on to Youtube and was promptly removed. Please understand this: HIS DEATH IS NOT FICTION. He has a family that is in shock and is mourning his death. His death should not be your entertainment.

Golden Globes Happenings

BBC News is reporting that “Stars brave rain at Golden Globes” . Immediately I begin to think about these heroic celebrities fighting mother nature only like celebrities can. I don’t think going out into the rain is being that brave but who am I to talk about bravery, I am afraid of squirrels.

I am wondering how many references will there be to Haiti? I wonder how many references will there be to the Leno – O’Brien fiasco? I doubt there will be any talk about the NFL playoffs.

So how much time is enough for CNN to devote to Haiti? I think CNN will give it till Wednesday (1 week) before they can go back to finding out what Kate Gosselin will be calling her new talk show and about her new hair style.

For Haiti: Wealthy people more generous than multi-billion dollar corporations — who would have thought?

“The horror! The horror!,” uttered my Haitian-Canadian friend when I asked her about the devastation in her native land. This pithy expression — so overused and over-abused in today’s cavalier and pop culture crazed society — if ever meant to rightly articulate one’s sentiment regarding a situation or event, is most à propos here. The devastating images continue to fill our screens every minute of every day, as they should. At the same time, it is during epic catastrophic events like these that we are also reminded how generous and empathetic a species we truly are. Millions of dollars are being raised every day by ordinary people around the world, using their credit cards, cell phones, Twitter and Facebook accounts to express their desire to help those in greatest need.

Many celebrities, wealthy people and corporations are frequently announcing their donations to the relief effort. Now I am not going to question the motives behind why certain people and companies feel the need to publicize exactly how much they are donating. After all, there is nothing wrong with a company having a Corporate Social Responsibility department or a celebrity having a Public Relations team. They are just doing their job. However, when one looks at who is donating what, something very curious emerges. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems as if wealthy individuals are donating far more, and I mean FAR more, than even MUCH wealthier corporations. Let’s have a quick look:

I bought more there than they donated.

Wal-Mart: $500,000 to the Red Cross and $100,000 worth of food

My monthly statement is almost as much as they donated

Visa: $200, 000 to the Red Cross

Sprint: $50, 000 to the Red Cross

Unilever: $500,000 to the World Food Programme

The Walt Disney Company: $100,000 to earthquake victims

UBS: Said it will match employee contributions up to a maximum of $500,000

Tiger Woods: donating money to send a cargo plane with mobile hospital

Lance Armstrong: $250,000

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: $1,000,000 to Doctors Without Borders

The Rothschilds: $2,500,000

The NHL could even match what she donated.

Giselle Bundchen: $1,500,000 to the Red Cross

Madonna: $250,000 to Haiti’s Partners in Health

Now this is certainly not an exhaustive list, not even close, but I am flabbergasted at the trend. Wal-Mart, Unilever, UBS….the world’s largest corporations, with market capitalization values in the billions of dollars, even hundreds of billions of dollars, being less generous than individuals worth 100 times less???

Conan O’Brien vs Jay Leno: It’s all Conan’s Fault.

I am sorry I haven’t been writing about the reaction to the Late Night Battle but I thought there was more relevant news in the world . Now that CNN is doing its’ job as a NEWS NETWORK, I felt I can go back to the world of attacking celebrities.

Think back to 2004: out of the blue it was announced that in 5 years Conan would be taking over the Tonight Show duties and Jay Leno would retire. NBC was “forced” to negotiate with O’Brien (his contract was set to expire in January 2006). It was odd and awkward that in 5 years Conan would have a different job.

Imagine if I told you that you would have your boss’ job in 5 years but for the next 5 years you are stuck at the same job, would you take it? Now imagine that your company’s competitors wanted to hire you and your boss assured you he would be leaving the job but you have to wait around for 5 years so you can’t go to his competitors. Would you sign that contract? Well Conan did.

The same scenario occurred back in 1991. Jay Leno was promised the Tonight Show and just as David Letterman’s contract was expiring, Letterman was offered a contact that would keep him hosting his Late Night show until Leno’s contact expired. Letterman figured that the weasels at NBC were going to screw him just like they initially did by giving Leno first dibs on the Tonight Show. So Letterman vaulted to CBS.

The reason I say this is all Conan’s fault is that for the past 5 years Leno has been cultivating his audience and they relied on him. NBC did not want to see Leno’s audience vanish so the figured offering him the 10 PM prime time slot would keep his audience and not risk Leno vaulting to another network. NBC wanted their cake and now it looks like they will get their cake but thrown in their face.

If all is true then it looks like Conan will be bought out of his contract so that Leno could return back to his regular slot and Conan will have to go looking for a new audience. If Conan hasn’t learned by now the only thing that matters to network TV is ratings. NBC wasn’t willing to wait for Conan’s numbers to grow. They figured that Jay at 11:35 will get those numbers again. In 1993 they were willing to wait for Conan to grow his audience at 12:35 since they figured they had nothing to lose…it was not like they had another talk show host with an established audience in the wings.
