The Truth Behind Why Lebron James Left Cleveland

If you want to know the truth behind why Lebron James left the the Cleveland Cavaliers, all you would have to do is look at the open letter written by the owner of the Cavaliers on their website.  What type of first class moron Majority Owner Dan Gilbert must be writing such a scathing letter that pretty much lets everyone who ever wants to play basketball in Cleveland that they are not welcome because they are not allowed to leave on their terms after fulfilling a contract.

What Lebron James did, although not popular with those in Cleveland and those who hate what sports has turned into, is legally within his rights.  He renegotiated a new contact with a new team.  He chose to go to a franchise that was building a championship rather than stick with his hometown. Perhaps doing a 1 hour ESPN special to announce that you are doing as such may have been classless but based on that open letter, it might have not been the most classless thing done last night.

Now ESPN found something duller than the draft lottery and trying to make Lebron’s decision a TV special was painful to say the least.  I pray to the Lord above that we don’t have to see something like this ever again but based on the amount of coverage (including from me) we can look forward to other NBA announcements like this for years to come.

Finally I am not a Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavalier fan, so the decision does not really affect me but based on what has happened, I think we as fans should realize that Sports is Big Business and athletes are not our friends or people we can relate to anymore.   They are entertainers, always looking for a bigger stage for themselves.  The athlete who is loyal to one city is long gone but every now and then there will be an exception.

The day an athlete can stay in one city without being trades, fired, or whatever is the day that sports free agency will die

Tiger Woods: I’m Sorry That I Got Caught

I found a few minutes this morning to get away and listen to the press conference.  This was the biggest news story since man supposedly landed on the moon.    And yes Tiger is sorry.  He apologized to his Wife, his kids, his corporate sponsors, his fans, his newspaperboy and to TMZ for making the press conference so early in the morning.  Once again as I have said in my past posts “WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A FLYING FIG?”

Well I’ll tell you why we should care because we don’t have to hear about Haiti anymore and ABC “NEWS” can devote 1 hour of prime time to a 10 minute press conference.  Who cares about hundreds of thousands of dead Haitian now we can concentrate on what really matter: Celebrity Shame.  So now we can gather ’round the water cooler and discuss his public shame and point at the giant crimson A on his shirt.

So now we heard a statement written by everybody but Tiger and we have seen him mope his head.   And we noticed that his wife is nowhere near him.  So what does all this mean?   WE SHOULDNT WE GIVE A FLYING FIG.

Olympic Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili Death and Video

I don’t have the video but NBC has the video.  I think we should not watch this video because it is just wrong and voyeuristic.  I won’t make the link easy for you to get to since I find it obscene to watch a man’s death but here it is minus a few characters:

Nor will I create a hyperlink for you.  Please read my previous post about how I feel and then you’ll understand why we should mourn a man’s death and not be entertained by it.

Georgian Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili Video

I was not a big fan of the Faces of Death videos when I was younger.  I find it disgusting watching someone’s death.  It is not for us to watch.  I’m sorry if I am offending anyone out there but a car crash doesn’t  interest me either.

I was horrified to hear about the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili this morning and I figured that the video would appear on Youtube in a matter of minutes.  Sure enough the video made it on to Youtube and was promptly removed.  Please understand this:  HIS DEATH IS NOT FICTION.  He has a family that is in shock and is mourning his death.  His death should not be your entertainment.

Mark McGwire admits to Steroid Usage

When he was yound and with working testicles

Mark McGwire admitted during an Associated Press phone interview that he did in fact take steroids.  This was a shock to no one with the exception of Tony Larussa who in a 2002 interview said that McGwire never used steroids.  In the March 16, 2006 edition of  the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, La Russa still defended McGwire:

La Russa, who maintains McGwire strengthened himself legally under supervision of current Cardinals first base coach Dave McKay, Thursday wished for a player of stature to assume the role McGwire pledged himself for last March. “I have long felt, and still do, there are certain players who need to publicize the legal way to get strong,” La Russa insisted. “That’s my biggest complaint. When those players have been asked, they’ve been very defensive or they’ve come out and said ‘Whatever.’ Somebody should explain that you can get big and strong in a legal way. If you’re willing to work hard and be smart about what you ingest, it can be done in a legal way.”

Added La Russa: “That’s the basis of why I felt so strongly about Mark. I saw him do that for years and years and years. That’s why I believe it. I don’t have anything else to add. Nothing has happened since he made that statement to change my mind.”

I wonder if  Larussa now believes McGwire was on the Juice?  Jose Canseco is looking more and more like a reliable source with each passing year.

Tiger’s Sabbatical: Tiger is pulling a John Lennon in order to save his marriage

What's wrong with you man? Look at her!!!!!

What's wrong with you man? Look at her!!!!!

Tiger is taking an ‘indefinite break’ from golf, so says his website. This is great if he is really going to be working on his marriage.  The thing about this though is that the Woods family has to get the hell out of Orlando and go somewhere private and secluded where helicopters won’t fly overhead taking video of anything or everything.   Tiger could easily kill this story the same way that David Letterman,  Mark Sanford (by the way he and his wife have filed for divorce today), and the Michael Douglas character in Fatal Attraction did it.  When John Lennon was unfaithful he went on a sabbatical too and became a family man.  I think Tiger  is going to have to decide what is more important golf or his family (by the way for all we know this hiatus might only be a short one until the Grand Slam Tournaments).

Tiger and his wife

Tiger and his wife

On Tiger Woods’ website he made an apology.    He said he did a bad bad thing.  He indicated he may have cheated.  This horrified me to think another star athlete has cheated just like Mark McGuire (supposedly),  Tim Montgomery, and the Iron Sheik.

How could a man, who I admired and emulated, do this to me?  How could Tiger, the greatest golfer in the history of mankind, do such a thing?  How could he disrespect the game the way that he did?  Oh wait he didn’t disrespect the game.  Tiger the Golfer did not cheat in golf but on his wife.  He disrespected his wife and family.  And this affects me how????

If it wasn’t for poor and reckless driving (it’s hard to drive with a golf club swinging at your windshield), we would have never been the wiser (unless one of these bimbos decided to sell their story).  This whole incident would have been behind closed doors.  I learned a long, long time ago that the people you see in public are different than the people they are outside the public eye.  I can tell you of a story about an actor who appeared on the Tonight Show, telling how he cleaned up his act and no longer was drinking or doing drugs and the week following that he was with me asking me to score a couple of grams for him.  I could also tell you of a newlywed musician who appeared on Entertainment Tonight talking about his new wife and how happy he was and the next week he was thanking a buddy for getting him a virgin the night before at the recording studio.

I am not sure Tiger needed to apologize to me but that was his choice.  My choice is to realize that Tiger the Golfer is who I admire and not Tiger the Man and that is your choice too I guess.
